Chilblains (pernosis)
Also known as
perniosis, chilblains are patches of itchy,
inflamed swellings on the skin, usually
occurring on the extremities such as the ears,
nose, fingers & toes. The cause of chilblains
isn't know, but it is an abnormal reaction
resulting of blood vessels beneath the skin
constricting (narrowing) when the skin becomes
cold, when the skin warms up too quickly, fluid
can leak from the blood vessels.
Some individuals
are more prone to chilblains than others, it is
also more common in children, older people &
those with poor circulation.
