How To Clean A Laptop Screen

Laptop screens are made of LCD (liquid crystal display), and care must be taken when cleaning them. My laptop screen seems to be a magnet for filth. Cat fur, dust and smudges all seem to be attracted to my screen. There are various products on the market designed for cleaning laptop screens safely, or you may want to make your own cleaner.

Ingredients (1):

  • 100ml distilled water (do not use tap water).

 Ingredients (2):

  • 100ml distilled water (do not use tap water).
  • 100ml white vinegar.

Ingredients (3):

  • 100ml distilled water (do not use tap water).
  • 100ml isopropyl alcohol.

Additional materials:

  • Spray bottle.
  • 2 x soft cloths (lint free microfiber cloths or an old t-shirt are good for cleaning laptop screens).

Method:

  • Add liquid contents to spray bottle.
  • Disconnect the laptop from the power.
  • Spray a small amount of the solution onto one cloth. It should be damp but not sopping.
  • Using circular motions, wipe cloth over laptop screen making sure you don’t apply too much pressure as this will damage the screen.
  • Remove any excess moisture from the screen with your second cloth.

Notes & caution:

  • Always use distilled water and not tap water to clean the screen. Tap water contains minerals and chemicals which can damage your screen.
  • Always unplug the laptop before cleaning.

  • Never use paper towels, abrasive cloths, ammonia or harsh chemicals on your screen.
  • Always check your owners manual before following the above cleaning methods.

Laptop screen care:
