how to cook rice

How much rice per serving:

½ cup of rice per person.

The below instructions are for 4 servings.

Pan method:

Ratio of water is 1:3. So, for each cup of rice, you will need two cups of water.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of rice.
  • 6 cups of water.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

Method:

  • Rinse rice thoroughly under cold water until water runs clear.
  • Add 6 cups of water to a pan, add salt & bring to the boil.
  • Add rice.
  • Bring to boil & then reduce heat, cover & simmer for 15-20 minutes.  

Absorption method:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of rice.
  • 3 cups of water.
  • 1 teaspoon salt.

Method:

  • Rinse rice thoroughly under cold water until water runs clear.
  • Add 3 cups of water & 2 cups of rice to a pan & bring to the boil. Stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to medium/low, cover & simmer for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, cover & leave for 5 minutes.
