Potatoes au gratin
Ingredients:
1kg potatoes, peeled & cut into 2mm slices.
Desiree, Anja, Bintje or Russet are good
varieties for this recipe.
30g butter, melted.
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped.
300ml thin cream.
120g grated cheddar cheese.
Salt & pepper to taste.
Method:
Preheat oven to 180C.
Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil &
add the potatoes. Cook for approximately 8
minutes or until they are tender. Drain the
water & stand until they are cool enough to
handle.
Meanwhile, fry the garlic in the butter until
golden.
Stir in the cream & cheese & gently simmer for a
few minutes.
Place a layer of potatoes in a casserole dish,
after 2 layers season with salt & pepper.
Continue layering until all potatoes are used
up. Season with salt & pepper.
Pour cream mixture over the potatoes so it just
covers them.
Bake in oven for approximately 1 hour.
