How To Remove
White Rings From Wood
White rings on
wood are caused by moisture, you will have the
best chance of removing the stain if you deal
with it immediately.
There are many
different methods to do this, some more
effective than others. It should be noted though
that some could result in damage to your wood.
If you are at all unsure, seek the advice of a
professional before applying anything to your
table.
As soon as you
notice a water mark, remove the source (ie; the
cup), and then wipe away the residue from the
table. Then try one of the following;
Method
1-Mayonnaise:
Apply a layer of
mayonnaise over the stain, leave overnight &
wipe off. Petroleum jelly can also be used in
this way.
Method 2 - Iron
& tea towel:
Place a clean,
white tea towel on the mark & with your iron set
to high (dry, not steam), apply on top of the
tea towel, leave for a few seconds. Be careful
not to burn the wood!
Method 3 -
Cigarette ash:
Place some
cigarette ash in a bowl with a small amount of
olive oil & mix into a paste. Rub into the
affected area.
Method 4 -
Hairdryer:
Use hairdryer on
lowest setting to remove moisture from the ring.
If low isn't working, try it on a hotter
setting.
Method 5 -
Toothpaste:
Apply toothpaste
(not the gel) to a dry cotton cloth & gently rub
the water mark.
