How to remove a tick (humans & pets)

What you will need:
-
Fine tipped tweezers or tick remover.
-
Soap & water
-
Jar & alcohol or plastic bag
Method:
-
Firmly grasp the tick as close to the skin
as possible.
-
Using slow & steady traction, pull in an
upward direction (don’t twist). Be extremely
careful not to squeeze the body of the tick
as this will inject more poison & pathogens
into the body.
-
Wash the area with warm, soapy water.
-
Either place the tick in alcohol or in a bag
in the freezer & note the date.
-
If most of the head is left in the skin, see
your doctor or vet. If a small amount is
left, it can either be removed like a
splinter would be, or left & the body will
eventually expel it.
-
If symptoms appear, seek medical advice
immediately. Bring along the tick for
identification.
What not to do:
-
Don't
delay removing the tick. They should be
removed as soon as they are discovered.
-
Don’t use petroleum jelly, rubbing alcohol,
heat (such as matches/cigarettes) or
kerosene to remove ticks. This will result
in more toxins being regurgitated back into
the body by the tick.
Notes:
-
If you live in an area with ticks, check
your pet daily & speak to your veterinarian
about tick prevention products.
